Our Story
Long ago and far, far away...
My historic preservation interest started in 1981 when I purchased a decrepit Greek Revival 1853 home named The Quint House on Main Street in the tiny hamlet of Rural, Wisconsin. As a community we worked to create the Rural On The Crystal National Register Historic District.
In the course of restoring antique furniture we discovered a process that more properly met established preservation standards for retention of existing stains and patinas. It was much better than what was the current common practice. (Harsh methods of paste soaking and water blasting). More importantly- it looked beautiful! The revelation has led us to some of the most prominent church and public wood restoration and preservation projects in the US. (Click to view my Preservation Resume).
To us it's not just "stripping and refinishing." How it looks matters. And, given the shear volume of wood in most church buildings, the impact of doing this work well can be breathtaking. That's why we do this. We love wood. Particularly old wood. (Also see our Woodwork Restoration website).
Most of our work is performed at or near the churches we contract and so the lucky unexpected result is that it's taken us to places we would otherwise never have gone. We've met all different kinds of really good people in really beautiful places.
So please don't be afraid to call or email. It's OK. This is what we do and we really enjoy working together with folks like you.

Process and aesthetics matter
There's a difference. How will the work be done? how will it look? how long will it last?
What We Do and Where We Go
Woodwork Restoration, LLC has a long history of solid wood church pew restoration, repairs and refinishing.
Most of our past projects are in the central Midwest US. Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, North and South Dakota.
But our model is to come to your area and perform the work in your community, thus we have the ability to go anywhere in the continental United States.
For a bid proposal we will need photos of the pews along with pew lengths and quantities.
If you are an info junkie our blog has lots of church pew refinishing articles with techy details and ideas.
